WR Brian Finneran seriously injured in drill

Brian Finneran injured his knee Sunday night making a cut in a non-contact drill.  He will have an MRI Monday morning and could miss the season.

This would be a major jolt to the Falcons as Finneran is one of Michael Vick’s favorite targets.  Last season Finneran caught 50 passes for the Falcons.  For his career Finneran has played in 87 games (35 starts) and caught 187 passes for 2,647 yards (14.2 avg) and 15 TD receptions.

Jimmy Williams (2, CB)

The Falcons were ecstatic to see Jimmy Williams available in the second round.  The Falcons had targeted Williams with the 15th pick of the first round, but traded that pick for defensive end John Abraham.  Williams is expected to start at right corner and push Jason Webster to nickel back.  Williams is a big corner at 6′2″, 205 pounds, and is very good at run support and jamming receivers off the ball.  Williams played in 53 games at Virginia Tech (39 starts) and made 264 tackles, broke up 25 passes and intercepted 9 passes.

Michael Vick holds the keys

Michael Vick needs to learn how to pass better to be considered an elite QB.  He already is an elite athlete, but to be an elite QB you have to be able to throw the ball accurately.  Vick has never thrown for over 3,000 yards or 17 TD passes in a season.  Vick has also never started 16 games in a season due to the pounding he takes running the ball.  Vick has played in 58 games in his career (51 starts) and has thrown for 9,031 yards with 51 TD passes and 39 interceptions.  Vick has only completed 54.1% of his passes for his career.  Vick has the arm to be a better thrower as he has a rocket launcher attached to his left shoulder….but sometimes you have to take a little off your fastball to complete a pass.

Vick’s talents are in the running game.  When Vick takes off, which he has 406 times in his career he has totaled 2,820 yards rushing with 19 TD runs.  Vick has also run for 163 first downs in his career.  The Falcons are not the same when Vick doesn’t play, but his style always sets him up to take a big hit.
