Michael Vick turns game over to Browns 17-13

Michael Vick played his worst game of the season today and it cost the Falcons the football game.  Vick threw 2 interceptions and fumbled a ball deep in Browns territory near the end of the game!  Vick completed 16 of 40 passes for 200 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT.  Vick also carried the ball 7 times for 74 yards (10.6 ypc), but he lost that key fumble late in the game.  Warrick Dunn was busy with 21 carries for 73 yards (3.5 ypc) and he caught 4 passes for 35 yards.  Roddy White had a good game with 6 catches for 111 yards.  Alge Crumpler caught only 4 passes for 37 yards.

The defense played very well, but the offense couldn’t make it stand!  Keith Brooking had 6 tackles and a fumble recovery.  DT Rod Coleman had a good game with 2 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.  The Saints held the Browns to 91 yards on 27 carries (3.4 ypc).  The Browns completed 16 of 22 passes for 145 net yards passing.

The Falcons needed to win this game, but they failed.

Starting corner out

Starting corner Jason Webster will miss 4-6 weeks with a groin injury.  The Falcons are in bad shape in the secondary for the game today with the Cleveland Browns.

Starting Guard out for season

Kyle Forney was placed on IR with a shoulder injury that probably will require surgery.  This is a blow to the offensive line that has blocked so well this season.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Cleveland Browns

The Cleveland Browns have looked a little better on offense with Jeff Davidson calling the plays as they have averaged 22.5 points per game with him calling the plays.  The Falcons have won two of their last three games, but they’ve given up 95 points in those 3 games.

Look for the Browns to run Reuben Droughns at the start of the game to keep the Falcons defense honest.  Droughns (418 yards rushing, 3.2 yards per carry) is having a rough season so far, but he should find some running room against the Falcons who allow 4.0 yards per carry.  The Browns will then attack the Falcons safeties who have been giving up alot of yards.  If the Browns protect Charlie Frye, there is a good chance he will have one of his better games of the season.  The Falcons have allowed 243.9 net yards passing per game and that is horrible.

When the Falcons have the football, look for them to be conservative and run the ball alot.  The Browns allow 142.9 yards rushing and 4.8 yards per carry so the Falcons should have little problem moving the ball.  I have a feeling that Michael Vick will hurt the Browns far more with his legs than his arm this week.  The Browns have a pretty decent pass defense, but Vick will probably get the ball to Alge Crumpler (30 rec, 430 yards) a few times.

Look for this to be a high scoring football game.  It’s a game the Falcons should win, but you could have said that last week against the Lions too.  Football is not played on paper, so you never know.

Kevin Mathis was placed on the Injured Reserve List ending his season with a neck injury sustained against the Lions.  Rookie Jimmy Williams will take over for Mathis in the nickel package.
