The Falcons hire Louisville’s Bobby Petrino to be the new Head Coach

Blogged under Big Falcons News, Bloglockers, Front Page, Uncategorized by ravenhater on Sunday 7 January 2007 at 11:39 pm

Bobby Petrino has been given a 5 year, $24 million dollar contract to lead the Atlanta Falcons into battle.  Petrino compiled a 41-9 record in 4 seasons at Louisville.  He led the Cardinals to their first Big East Championship and BCS appearance.  The Cardinals prevailed in the Orange Bowl 24-13 over Wake Forest.  The interesting thing with this hire is that Petrino is a coach that favors the passing game, so it will be interesting to see what Michael Vick’s role will be for the Falcons.  It’s possible that the Falcons might trade Michael Vick and start Matt Schaub.  This will be a very interesting off-season for the Falcons.

Word is Petrino still has a grudge against the Vick family because of Marcus Vick cleating Elvis Dumervil in last year’s Gator Bowl. I’m certain a trade is imminent.

You guys might trade Vick, but you’re an uninformed idiot if you think Petrino favors the passing game, Louisville rushed for 185 yards a game this year. Petrino “favors” a balanced offense with a sound running game and a creative passing game. Don’t twist facts to make your point about trading Vick, its annoying.

Mike Vick= Coach Killer. Is That Annoying Enough For You?>

Michael Vick is a great athlete, but he’s not even an average QB. I think he’s a goner in Atlanta.

Let’s all stop pretending Vick is something he’s not. Fast? Yes. Athletic? Yes. Strong Arm? Yes. Good QB? . . . uh, nope.

If all there were a white QB who played like Vick, he’d have been out of a job many years ago. But, saying a black man is fast and athletic and a lousy QB is “racist”.

Vick is simply not equipped to be a QB, and his skin color has absolutely nothing to do with it.

    I don’t think he’s a poor QB because he’s a black guy. He’s a bad QB because he can’t pass….which is a pre-requisite of an NFL QB.

Well, if Vick goes, the ladies in ATL won’t have to worry so much about herpes going around…

The questions is who would trade for vick? I don’t think the gasping for air raiders would….well never mind. Petrino is smart he will evaluate and then decide.

Jim Mora Jr. was a terrible coach who deserved to get fired…while Mike Vick is an pretty big talent - he needs the team and game plans built around what he does best: roll out, with option to run/pass. Simple as that. If that’s so simple, why couldn’t that ass head Mora get it? This is from the guy who didn’t know to play for a tie in 2005 to save his team’s playoff chances.

Petrino will have to build around Vick. Bottom line. I am sure that was the first question of the interview: “Can you build a Super Champion around Mike Vick?” The answer, I am sure, was a big, fat YES. Vick isn’t going anywhere.

Well, Michael Vick has had 6 years now and he’s shown no improvement as a football player. He has never even thrown for 3,000 yards in a season.

I agree totally with Chris. The first question of any interview was: Can you win with Mike Vick. He’s the man of the franchise, like or not. I also thought Mora was pulling a Atlanta Hawks, trying to rein in a magician the way the Hawks reined in Pete Maravich. He was too radical, too ahead of his time, as is Vick.

Vick is here to stay … at least for a while. What the Falcons need is a head coach who will build around Vick’s strengths. And insure that he has an offensive line that will protect him, as well as some receivers who can … well, receive the ball. As in “catch” it.

The infected dick of Vick has made some women sick. The offence of Mora has made Vick a burro. The savior Petino will turn Vick into a Marino.

LOL. If Dan Marino came out of retirement right now…..he would be a better QB than Michael Vick is.

QUestion to Falcon fans: would you give up Vick for the Raiders’1st and 2nd round picks? Resign Schuabb and pick Russell or Quinn and maybe a receiver or whatever.
    Just curious.

it would be something i would seriously think about.

I hate to throw cold water on you Potato….but there’s no way in hell the Raiders give you that for Michael Vick. QB’s that can’t pass are not worth 2 high draft picks.
