The Atlanta Falcons re-sign linebacker Demorrio Williams

Blogged under General, Bloglockers, Front Page by dawgpounded on Tuesday 24 April 2007 at 8:56 pm

The Falcons have re-signed Demorrio Williams to a 1-year contract.  He played in all 16 games last season and he made 90 tackles, had a sack, 1 interception, defensed 2 passes, forced 2 fumbles and he recovered a fumble that he returned 54 yards for a TD.  The old coaching staff didn’t like Williams that much but I bet Petrino will because he likes players that produce on defense and Williams certainly has done that in his career with the Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons are on the clock…………

I have conducted a complete 7 round draft for every team in the NFL.  If you want to see what I have projected for any other team in the NFL, click on the team name in the right hand margin and go to the team’s Draft Report page if you don’t see the article on the front page of the site.  This was a lot of work so I hope you enjoy it.

The Atlanta Falcons are looking to reinvent themselves on offense to run coach Bobby Petrino’s offense.  They still will pay attention to defense early as here is the projected picks of the Falcons:

1. (8)  LaRon Landry, S, LSU

2. (39)  Charles Johnson, DE, Georgia

2. (44)  Ryan Kalil, C, USC

3. (75)  Antonio Pittman, RB, Ohio State

4. (109)  Paul Williams, WR, Fresno State

4. (121)  Brandon Frye, OT, Virginia Tech

4. (133)  C.J. Wilson, CB, Baylor

5. (149)  Dallas Baker, WR, Florida

6. (185)  Mike Otto, OT, Purdue

7. (244)  Steve Vallos, OT, Wake Forest

If the Falcons can get all of these players they would probably be doing cartwheels in the War Room.  Landry and Johnson would make the defense a lot better from Day #1.  All of the offensive players would definately help, but Antonio Pittman could be a really big steal for the Falcons if they can get him in the 3rd round.

The Atlanta Falcons release CB Kevin Mathis

Blogged under Big Falcons News, Bloglockers, Front Page by dawgpounded on Wednesday 11 April 2007 at 12:37 am

The Falcons released Kevin Mathis after he failed a physical for the team.  He played in 8 games last season and he made 22 tackles, had a sack, defensed 4 passes and forced a fumble.  The Falcons will miss Mathis as he’s a good football player when healthy.

The Atlanta Falcons sign QB Joey Harrington

The Falcons have signed Joey Harrington to replace Matt Schaub as Michael Vick’s backup.  He played in 11 games last season for the Miami Dolphins and he completed 223 of 388 (57.5%) passes for 2,236 yards with 12 TD passes and 15 interceptions (68.2 QB Rating).  He also ran the ball 19 times for 24 yards (1.3 ypc).  This was a good signing for the Falcons as Harrington is not a bad backup QB.  Now the Falcons won’t need to draft one at the end of the month.
