Warrick Dunn’s surgery has cast a huge cloud over the Falcons’ running back situation for the 2007 season. The Falcons need their little fireplug healthy because no one else on the roster is a bona fide #1 back. Dunn played in all 16 games last season for the Falcons and he carried the ball 286 times for 1,140 yards (4.0 ypc) with 4 TD runs and he also caught 22 passes for 170 yards (7.7 avg) with 1 TD grab. He has taken a beating over his NFL career as he is only 5’9″, 180 pounds but he’s as tough as nails. Dunn has now played in 150 games (133 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 2,256 times for 9,461 yards (4.2 ypc) with 43 TD runs. He also has caught 426 passes for 3,771 yards (8.9 avg) with 15 TD grabs.
Jerious Norwood had an outstanding rookie season for the Falcons but he also is a finesse runner that likely couldn’t shoulder a full workload. He played in 14 games last season for the Falcons and he carried the football 99 times for 633 yards (6.4 ypc) with 2 TD runs and he also caught 12 passes for 102 yards (8.5 avg) with 0 TD grabs. He also returned 13 kickoffs for 320 yards (24.6 avg) but he likely won’t be doing much kick returning this season as he will be needed more on the offense.
Jamal Robertson has been running a lot with the first team offense in Training Camp this season but it’s very questionable as to how much he can contribute in the running game. He only played in 1 game for the Falcons last season and he didn’t get any yards or carries. He has played in 35 games (0 starts) in his NFL career and he has carried the ball 62 times for 248 yards (4.0 ypc) with 2 TD runs and he also has caught 4 passes for 34 yards (8.5 avg). Robertson has also returned 58 kickoffs for 1,325 yards (22.8 avg) with 0 TDs.
