Atlanta Falcons vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,General,This Week's Matchup Report by admin on Thursday 13 December 2007 at 1:53 am

These are two teams going in opposite directions as the Falcons have lost their last four games by a combined 124-50!  They also had their coach quit after Monday Night’s game which was very strange.  The Bucs have won 4 of their last 5 games to take a commanding lead in the NFC South.

The Falcons will probably throw the ball a lot in this game as they have nothing to lose at this point in the season.  Look for Chris Redman to challenge the Bucs’ DBs deep with Roddy White and Michael Jenkins.  The Falcons would also be smart to let Jerious Norwood get the ball as the main running back in this offense as he can go the distance on any carry.

The Bucs will likely keep feeding the ball to Ernest Graham who has done an outstanding job as the main man in the running game.  The Falcons are allowing 123.7 yards rushing per game this season so Graham should find a lot of running room.  Jeff Garcia is a master at play action passing and he could have a field day throwing the ball to Joey Galloway this weekend.

PREDICTION:  TAMPA BAY BUCCANEERS 24,  ATLANTA FALCONS 9

Coach Bobby Petrino resigns from the Atlanta Falcons

Blogged under Big Falcons News,Bloglockers,Front Page,General by admin on Tuesday 11 December 2007 at 9:40 pm

Bobby Petrino resigned today after the Falcons started his first season as a NFL Coach with a 3-10 record.  Petrino will be named the head coach at Arkansas tomorrow.  He won’t likely ever get another chance to coach in the pros after quitting without even finishing the season.  Petrino found the NFL much tougher than college as you don’t get to make your own schedule.  Playing 8 games on the road every season and with a salary cap in which the teams almost spend as much as each other…..he found things way too tough.

New Orleans Saints 34, Atlanta Falcons 14

The Atlanta Falcons were totally awful for three quarters before waking up in the 4th and making a game of it.  Joey Harrington started the game and he did not play well as he completed 17 of 34 passes for 184 yards with a interception.  He was replaced by Chris Redman who led the Falcons to a comeback before they faded.  He completed 16 of 24 passes for 172 yards with 2 TD passes and 1 interception.  Warrick Dunn had a rough time finding any running room against the Rams as he carried the ball 10 times for 17 yards (1.7 ypc).  Jerious Norwood outplayed Dunn once again as he carried the football 8 times for 94 yards (11.8 ypc) and he also caught 3 passes for 21 yards (7.0 avg).  Roddy White had a monster game as he caught 10 passes for 146 yards (14.6 avg) with a TD grab.  Alge Crumpler (7 rec, 65 yards) and Michael Jenkins (5 rec, 48 yards, TD) also pitched in on the passing game for the Falcons.  The Falcons finished up with 111 yards rushing on 18 carries (6.2 ypc) and they also completed 33 of 58 passes for 324 yards.
