The Falcons filled another need in drafting safety William Moore in the 2nd round.  Moore projects to be a strong safety in the pros as he is a good run defender packing a wallop in his hits.  He can be worked by QBs as sometimes he’s caught peeking at their eyes.  Moore is a big guy at 6′0″, 223 pounds and he’s pretty fast running a 4.5 40.  Moore played 4 years at Missouri and he played in 48 games (32 starts) in which he made 284 tackles, broke up 22 passes, had 11 interceptions (162 yards), forced 5 fumbles and he recovered 1 fumble.  This was another solid pick for the Falcons who have now added to solid young players to the defense.

1. (24) Peria Jerry, DT

The Atlanta Falcons couldn’t be happier when they saw DT Peria Jerry slide to them in the first round.  He should start from Day #1 on the inside for the Falcons.  He has a never stopping motor as he fights through the double team and gets into the opposing backfield often.  He is a tad on the small side at 6′1″, 290 pounds but he’s very fast for his size running a 4.9 40.  Jerry played 4 seasons at Mississippi in which he played in 38 games (29 starts) and he made 132 tackles, 33 tackles for a loss, has 11.5 sacks, batted down 3 balls, forced 2 fumbles and he recovered 2 fumbles.  This was a outstanding pick for the Falcons.

The Atlanta Falcons acquire TE Tony Gonzalez from the Chiefs

The Falcons have acquired 33-year old TE Tony Gonzalez from the Chiefs for a 2nd round pick in the 2010 NFL Draft.  Gonzalez played in all 16 games for the Chiefs last season and he caught 96 passes for 1,058 yards (11.0 avg) with 10 TD grabs.  He has had over 1,000 yards receiving 4 times in his NFL career and he has caught 10+ TDs in a season three times.  Gonzalez has now played in 190 games in his NFL career and he has caught 916 passes for 10,940 yards (11.9 avg) with 76 TD grabs.  This move gives Matt Ryan a receiver in the short game that he can trust so look for the Falcons to have one of the highest scoring most efficient offenses in the NFL this season.

The Atlanta Falcons trade WR Laurent Robinson to the Rams

The Falcons have traded 23-year old WR Laurent Robinson to the Rams for the right to swap picks with the Rams in both the 5th and 6th round in this month’s NFL Draft.  Robinson played in only 6 games for the Falcons last season catching 5 passes for 52 yards (10.4 avg).  He has now played in 21 games in his 2-year NFL career and he has caught 42 passes for 489 yards (11.6 avg) with 1 TD grab.  This could turn out to be a good trade for both teams as the Rams were really hurting for a WR and the Falcons get to move up to the top of the 5th and 6th rounds later this month.
