Falcons can’t keep up with Cowboys and lose 38-28

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Uncategorized by ravenhater on Sunday 17 December 2006 at 12:52 am

The Falcons played very hard on offense, but their defense couldn’t hold off the Cowboys offense that made alot of big plays.  Michael Vick had a great game completing 16 of 24 passes for 237 yards passing with 4 TDs and 1 INT (it was returned for a TD).  He also carried the ball 8 times for 56 yards (7.0 ypc).  Warrick Dunn played thru pain in his calf and carried the ball 18 times for 56 yards (3.1 ypc) and he caught 2 passes for 19 yards.  Justin Griffith only carried the ball once, for 15 yards.  He also caught the ball 4 times for 34 yards and 2 TDs.  Roddy White had a good game with 3 catches for 104 yards.  Alge Crumpler caught 5 passes for 59 yards.  Michael Jenkins caught 3 passes for 37 yards and a TD.  Ashley Lelie added 2 catches for 17 yards and a TD.

OLB Michael Boley had a good game with 6 tackles and an interception.  Rod Coleman added 2 sacks.  The Cowboys carried the ball 27 times for 94 yards (3.5 ypc).  The Cowboys threw the ball real well as they completed 22 of 29 passes for 258 net yards thru the air.

The Falcons playoff hopes took a hard jolt with this loss that leaves them at 7-7 on the year.

Falcons sign Jamal Robertson

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injured Reserve,Uncategorized by ravenhater on Thursday 14 December 2006 at 12:46 am

Jamal Robertson was signed to give the Falcons a healthy body at running back.  Robertson has played in 33 games in his career and has carried the ball 62 times for 248 yards (4.0 ypc) and 2 TDs.  He also has caught 4 passes for 34 yards (8.5 avg).  He should be able to give the Falcons some good carries if they need him to step in.

Falcons searching for a running back

The Falcons brought in Quentin Griffin for a workout on Monday and are considering bringing in Duce Staley or Lee Suggs for a tryout too.  The reason the Falcons are bringing in so many backs is that Warrick Dunn (calf) and Jerious Norwood (knee) both left the game last Sunday against the Bucs and their status is in the air for this week’s game.

Their also has been talk that the Falcons might consider starting Michael Vick at running back and Matt Schaub at QB for one week.  This would be interesting, but I don’t think Vick would go for it.

Falcons run over Redskins 24-14

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Uncategorized by ravenhater on Sunday 3 December 2006 at 8:23 pm

The Redskins dashed out to a 14-0 lead before the Falcons dominated the rest of the game.  Michael Vick played pretty well as he completed 8 of 16 passes for 122 yards and 2 TDs.  Vick also carried the ball 10 times for 59 yards (5.9 ypc).  Jerious Norwood had a great game as he carried the ball 9 times for 107 yards (11.9 ypc) and a TD.  Warrick Dunn carried the ball 21 times for 87 yards (4.1 ypc).  Alge Crumpler caught 2 passes for 62 yards and a TD.  Michael Jenkins had a decent game with 4 catches for 43 yards and a TD.

The defense was led by Keith Brooking (10 tackles) and Lawyer Milloy (9 tackles).  The Falcons had big trouble stopping the Redskins running game as they carried the ball 35 times for 177 yards (5.1 ypc).  The Redskins completed 18 of 38 passes for 204 net yards passing.

Maybe this win will jump-start a playoff push by the Falcons.

Atlanta Falcons vs. Washington Redskins

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,This Week's Matchup Report,Uncategorized by ravenhater on Friday 1 December 2006 at 12:40 pm

The Falcons have seen the wheels fall off on their season as they’ve lost 4 games in a row.  The Redskins have played a little better since Jason Campbell has been inserted into the starting line-up.

The Falcons will look to run the ball at the Redskins soft run defense that is allowing 119.4 yards rushing and 4.0 yards per carry this season.  Michael Vick (870 yards rushing, 9.2 ypc), Warrick Dunn (865 yards rushing) and Jerious Norwood (411 yards rushing) should have little trouble moving the football.  Michael Vick is having trouble throwing the ball, but alot of that is because his WRs can’t catch.  The Redskins will probably try to take Alge Crumpler out of the game with their coverage and force Vick to beat them with his WRs.

The Redskins will come out running the ball with LeDell Betts (488 yards rushing) against the tough run defense of the Falcons that only allows 98.2 yards rushing per game and 3.8 yards per carry.  If the Redskins were ever going to turn Jason Campbell loose, this will be the game as the Falcons secondary is all banged up.  The Falcons are allowing a remarkable 241.2 net yards passing per game.

I have to lean towards the Redskins in this football game because the Falcons are spinning out of control as a football team.

Falcons defenseless in 31-13 loss to Saints

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Uncategorized by ravenhater on Sunday 26 November 2006 at 11:51 pm

The Saints just took it to the Falcons and their was nothing the Falcons could to do stop it.  Michael Vick had a hard time throwing the football, as he only completed 9 of 24 passes for 84 yards.  Vick did run the ball extremely well as he carried the ball 12 times for 166 yards (13.8 ypc).  Jerious Norwood had a solid game with 13 carries for 54 yards (4.2 ypc).  Warrick Dunn had a rough time with 19 carries for only 52 yards (2.7 ypc) and a TD.  Alge Crumpler was held to one catch for 43 yards.

The defense played awful against the Saints.  The Saints carried the ball 25 times for 95 yards (3.8 ypc).  The defense allowed the Saints to complete 21 of 30 passes for 332 net yards passing.

The Falcons dropped to 5-6 on the season.  As Michael Vick was leaving the field, he was throwing out F-bombs and middle fingers at hecklers in the home crowd!

Atlanta Falcons vs. New Orleans Saints

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Uncategorized by ravenhater on Friday 24 November 2006 at 11:52 am
The Saints have lost three of their last four games as they have been having been having a rough time on defense.  The Falcons have lost three games in a row, as they’ve been outscored 71-37 in those games.

The Saints will try to duplicate the game plan that gave them a 23-3 victory over the Falcons in week #3 of the season.  That plan was to throw the ball to get a lead and take the Falcons out of their running game.  Drew Brees (3,114 yards passing) has been on fire lately and that should continue against the injury-ravaged secondary of the Atlanta Falcons.  The Falcons are allowing 232.1 net yards passing per game.  The Saints will not forget to run the ball if they get a quick lead, as Deuce McAllister and Reggie Bush could have some success against the injury-depleted defensive line of the Falcons.

The Falcons should have no problem getting their running game going against the Saints defense which is allowing 125.9 yards rushing and 4.8 yards per carry.  Warrick Dunn (813 yards rushing), Michael Vick (704 yards rushing) and Jerious Norwood (357 yards rushing) should all find running room.  The Falcons need to run to control the clock and keep the Saints offense on the sideline.  Look for Vick (1,686 yards passing) to take a couple shots down the field as the Saints have already allowed 20 TD passes this season.

This will be a better game than the first time these two teams played.  The Saints were riding a tidal wave of emotion in the first game as it was the first game at the SuperDome since Hurricane Katrina.  The Georgia Dome will not be as nice of an environment for the Saints.  Either team can win this game.

Falcons offense sputters again in 24-10 loss to Ravens

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Uncategorized by ravenhater on Monday 20 November 2006 at 2:09 pm

The Falcons could just never get anything going against the Baltimore Ravens yesterday as they only had 186 yards total offense for the game.

Michael Vick continued to have problems throwing the football as only completed 11 of 21 passes for 127 yards and a TD.  Vick ran the ball well as he carried the rock 6 times for 54 yards (9.0 ypc).  Warrick Dunn didn’t play very well either with 15 carries for 52 yards (3.5 ypc).  FB Justin Griffith caught 4 passes for 34 yards.  Michael Jenkins had 3 passes for 23 yards and scored the Falcons lone TD.

Demorrio Williams was all over the field and logged 17 tackles.  Keith Brooking also had a good game with 13 tackles.  The Ravens carried the ball 31 times for 103 yards (3.3 ypc).  The Falcons had a rough time with the Ravens passing game as they allowed them to complete 24 of 34 passes for 225 net yards passing.

The Falcons only possessed the football for 23:17 of the game and it’s hard to win that way.  The Falcons fell to 5-5 on the season, and they better straighten it out soon…because they’re running out of time.

Atlanta Falcons lose Kerney for season

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Injured Reserve,Uncategorized by ravenhater on Tuesday 14 November 2006 at 9:40 pm

The Falcons have lost Patrick Kerney for the season after he tore a pectoral muscle against the Cleveland Browns last Sunday.  Paul Carrington will start in Kerney’s place.  This is a huge blow to the Falcons defense which has been decimated by injury this season.  The Falcons better get back to running the football to keep their defense off of the field.

Michael Vick turns game over to Browns 17-13

Blogged under Bloglockers,Front Page,Uncategorized by ravenhater on Sunday 12 November 2006 at 7:22 pm

Michael Vick played his worst game of the season today and it cost the Falcons the football game.  Vick threw 2 interceptions and fumbled a ball deep in Browns territory near the end of the game!  Vick completed 16 of 40 passes for 200 yards with 1 TD and 2 INT.  Vick also carried the ball 7 times for 74 yards (10.6 ypc), but he lost that key fumble late in the game.  Warrick Dunn was busy with 21 carries for 73 yards (3.5 ypc) and he caught 4 passes for 35 yards.  Roddy White had a good game with 6 catches for 111 yards.  Alge Crumpler caught only 4 passes for 37 yards.

The defense played very well, but the offense couldn’t make it stand!  Keith Brooking had 6 tackles and a fumble recovery.  DT Rod Coleman had a good game with 2 tackles, a sack and a fumble recovery.  The Saints held the Browns to 91 yards on 27 carries (3.4 ypc).  The Browns completed 16 of 22 passes for 145 net yards passing.

The Falcons needed to win this game, but they failed.
